SOUL! A simple little four-letter word, often used. But, bless my soul!, it’s hard to get an exact meaning. My dictionary says it is: “The spiritual and immortal part of a human being; the seat of emotion, sentiment and aspiration; spirit; source of inspiration”. And it goes on a good bit longer than that.
To pop music fans, “soul” has come to be the verbal hub of a revolution - a world enthusiasm for those previously under-rated, mostly coloured singers who sell lyrics bluesily, diggin deep into their soul, bending notes and phrases with intuitive skill.
A part of the flip-side of John Schroeder’s “Working In The Soul Mine” and written by John Peters.
